Bay Area 2009 Hiring Forecast Survey Results

Majority of survey participants report increase or flat hiring needs

SUNNYVALE, CA (March 10, 2009) – West Valley Staffing Group, an independent and privately owned staffing agency, recently polled a variety of hiring managers in various sized companies throughout the Bay Area about their hiring needs for the first half of 2009. Each participant was asked the same question, "Do you anticipate your hiring needs to increase, remain steady, or decrease in the first half of the year and beyond?"

So what was the outcome? The good news is that over half the companies surveyed (51%) said
their hiring will either remain steady or increase in the first half of the year. Alternately, 49% said their hiring may decrease in the first half of the year.

This isn't the best news, but what does it really mean? While the media continues to report how bad the economy is, is there some light at the end of the tunnel?

“Several industries in the Bay Area continue to thrive, including government, energy, sciences, entertainment, and more,” says Mike Williams, President and CEO of West Valley Staffing Group. “Ultimately, the stories of success are often hidden away or overlooked, because they are just not as sensational as the stories of layoffs and bankruptcy that make headlines.”
